I was on the Mazama from 1965 to 1967 in the Gunny Division (I think it was called) as FTG3rd class. What stories I recall! Laundry guy’s arm in the ice machine to a 2,000 lb bomb rolling up someone’s arm on deck. Tons of good memories too.
Hey Bruce, I remember these as well as the Doc. The fat-bomb crushing accident was pretty serious and it was a day before seas calmed down enough so we could evac him to a carrier. Saw him a couple of years later and he had 90% of his hands use back. Doc gaspard
Bruce, come see us in Portland Maine in September. Plenty of guys from this WesPac Cruise.
Did you get a message I sent you under CONTACT?
No, can you resend? Doc
Sorry I cannot attend the reunion. Just noticed the crew list shows me on board from 66 – 67. Actually I reported on 11 Jan 1965 in Mayport, FL.

Rick Becker EN-3 in M-Div. in Iowa
My grandson is a FC-3 on the USS John Paul Jones DDG-53 in Pearl Harbor. His weapons system is the CIWS 20 MM Gatling gun !
The laundry guy was seaman John Smith and he got his arm caught in the extractor in the laundry and it twisted him arm off. I was a seaman in the laundry during that time.
