Mr. Simms was a true Sailor.
The only Crewmember that I knew of that served aboard Mazama in the Fifties as a rated Boatswain Mate, and returned as an L.D.O., Lt. JG. during our 1961 Re commissioning..
I was a young BM3 and worked for Mr. Simms.
He knew more about being a Sailor than any man I had ever met.
Mr. Simms retired as a Lt. Commander, and passed away in Orlando.
If any Sailor deserves “Fair Winds, and a Following Sea” it’s Gordon Simms.
