First Division

Smitty was a recommissioning plank owner in 1961. Came aboard as BM3 in First Division and made 2nd Class before he left in 1963. Retired as Chief. Don’t know if he made E-8 or E-9. Even when I was a Seaman, Smitty treated us well. He was a great guy. The way he was suffering, it was a blessing he passed away quietly. In talking to him, he was prepared to ship out.
