Michael Gaydos, Jr. · 61-63

LCDR

My father has passed and I found a silver bowl presented to him and my mother (Jo) from the Officers of the Mazama. Does anyone recollect anything about my father’s service?

Your Dad was Executive Office at the time of our Re-commissioning, November 27, 1961. According to the Re-commissioning booklet, LTCDR Gaydos was born in Pennsylvania, educated at Princeton University, and was Commissioned in June 1947.
The only other ship mentioned was the Minesweeper USS Affray (MSO 511) homeported in Charleston, South Carolina, where he served as Commanding Officer. Your Dad was a LTCDR, and I was a Bos’n Mate 3rd Class on the Mazama, so we didn’t have a great deal of contact during the two years we served together. If you can locate a Radioman or Signalman that served on Mazama during this period they would have had more day to day contact. Hope that I have given you some help.
