I made the famous WestPac round the world cruise in 1966. I boarded USS MAZAMA in Davisville, RI in the winter of ’66 about a month prior departure for Tonkin Gulf. The best crew I had ever been with. Made lots of great friends, shined shoes, and loved the excitement of the voyage. As a personelman, I made the rounds and got to know just about everybody. Enjoyed the officers, as many of them went to college with my high school chums. I remember the gentle Capt Kiley and John Francis Sweeney as being the best commanders. They were real people. Ens Delasandro grew up down the street from me in Cleveland, Ohio. What a small world. Thanks for getting us back on line “Doc”.
