Richard Jones · 1962-64

Chief master of arms, engineering M and A division

My father died of a heart attack on February 18, 1976. He was a crew member during the Mazama’s deployment for the Cuban blockade. In the 1964 Med cruise book, he is mentioned in the narrative for the department and there are a few pictures of him as well. During that deployment, there was an explosion in the engine room. He was not injured but witnessed the explosion.

I think my father was on the Mazama from 1961-63. Does anyone know of him or stories, as my father has passed? Thanks. Mike
