Joined the Mazama in 1962, following Radar ‘A’ School in Great Lakes. Served in Cuban Blockade, 1962, as RDSN, later as RD3. Also, remember well 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy which seemed to bond the crew even closer. Transferred to USS Springfield (CLG-7), in December 1963, and later promoted to RD2. Also, remember re-connecting with old shipmates when Mazama and Springfield was anchored during cruise task force ops in Mediterranean Sea, before leaving Navy in 1966. May God continue to bless the Mazama crews…

Thanks Duke for finding the site. Hope you can make one of our reunions. Mazama is well represented amoung the AE/AOE’s. Bill Gohde of 1996 – 68 Mazama is the President of the organization.

    Doc 1966-68.
