2016 Reunion – September 7-11 Portland, Maine

November 30, 2015 by Jim Gaspard 2 Comments

The annual AESA AOE/AE Sailors Reunion in 2016 will be held at the Fireside Inn and Suites in Portland Maine September 7 to 11. This has been an annual event held in various cities across the US, and last year in Dayton, Ohio we had a tremendous turnout for USS Mazama shipmates. There are special rates set up for reservations made in advance of the event. Call the reservation center at 207-774-5601 (24/7 operator).

Our special rates are $99.00 a night (1 or 2 people) including hot breakfast. This is the week after Labor Day so if you are planning an early arrival, make your reservations sooner than later.  Rates are good for three days before and after the reunion if you are planning a side trip or cruise, or to see the Fall color changes. Your reservations will include Valet parking and if flying, free airport shuttle service into Portland. Free pickup at Amtrak terminal, too. There are several special tours scheduled beginning on Thursday which you can sign up for you and your companion, Bath Ship Yards, Maine Maritime Museum, Freeport Maine, DiMillos floating restaurant, Kennebunkport, Maine Lobster Bake, Casco Bay boat tour, and more . This is all capped by the AESA Banquet Saturday evening at the Fireside Inn.

Our very own, Bill Gohde (AE-9 1965 to 68) is our AESA President. Bill and his lovely wife Kathy will host the reunion. You can also contact Jerry or Beverly King at 951-427-3138 for further information.

I’ve never had an opportunity to attend a Mazama Reunion but will attend this one. Really looking forward to the event.

My father is a veteran of WW2 and was on the Mazama when it was torpedoed. Someone called him and wanted to interview him about that experience and to get a picture. My father is hard of hearing and blind so he asked the person to call back when his daughter was there. If you are reading this and still interested, please contact me at 615 218 4777. I will be happy to get you with my father. He loves to talk about that experience.
